Lazy DIY // iMac Stand

For the past few months I've been using a book as an iMac stand. As easy as that is, sometimes I, you know, need the book. So I got determined to find another solution.

I've dug around online for some options but everything is expensive and I am broke 99% of the time (the other 1% are paydays, and by the end of said days when I pay my bills I'm back to nothing, it's fun!). So I decided to try to repurpose a shelf or box or something from Target so ave some money and get better lift.

Then I hit up the section with the Homemade Modern crafts and had a great idea; a lot of my favorite iMac stands were wooden blocks, so why not use some wooden blocks to make myself something?

So I picked up a set of the wooden blocks, glue, Magic Sliders bumpers for the bottom, and some metallic washi tape.

I'm not doing a step-by-step here, because I didn't have that much foresight, but all I did was glue the blocks together, put the bumpers on the bottom, them cover it with the metallic washi tape. The whole thing took me about 30 minutes.

The blocks weren't all exactly the same size or cut (some sides had rounded corners, others didn't) so I just flipped and turned until I found a configuration that seemed even enough. I live in an apartment and have no tools, but I imagine someone with more patience and tools at their disposal could glue together, clamp, then sand to make it perfectly even. I did not do those things. I just glued four blocks together, then covered it in shiny washi tape.

It practically disappears into the desktop, which is perfect. As you can probably tell, I don't go out of my way to hide things from my desktop. I just wanted the iMac at eye level. And the metallic shine is pretty fun. It's also pretty low-profile, meaning it doesn't take up that much desktop space, definitely not as much as other stands or as the iMac flush on the desktop. I can store my copious amounts of markers and pens easily under the iMac in a cup.

I think all-in-all this project cost me about $25. Maybe less. People better at building things can probably do something cooler but if I can do this and have it look halfway decent, anyone else can do it and make it look incredibly. Also metallic washi tape ftw.
