Jack Kirby Day

To celebrate Jack Kirby, I've cobbled together some of his art from my favorite Jack Kirby panels and covers from various properties he's had a hand in over time.

I saw a rather distressing photo today of what Doctor Doom is join got look like in the new Fantastic Four film coming out this year. Rather than dwell on how horrible that film is going to be, I think it's time to celebrate one of the most iconic Fantastic Four artists of all time: Jack Kirby.

His art shaped the look of both Marvel and DC properties in ways no other artist ever has or will. The way we think of great heroes like Captain America, the New Gods, Black Panther, the Fantastic Four, Thor, the Avengers, Superman, Kamandi, and so many more, are all because of him. Yet his contributions go mostly unsung, with the exception of collectors and obsessed comic book nerds.

I wish there were more interior panels available somewhere to show. The depth-of-field is gorgeous. And his takes on characters are always the best takes. In particular, I love his work on Black Panther.

So happy Jack Kirby day, y'all. Do a Google Image search and enjoy.
